This was a Sunday Lunch straight out of the top draw. I’d heard about Thompson’s from seeing that friends we know had dined there a few times . With that in mind yesterday we decided to pay a visit ourselves and believe me the pleasure was all ours. Set on the edge of St Albans town centre and although the restaurant doesn’t have its own car park there is ample parking within a 5 minute walk. As you enter you are given a great friendly welcome then as you look around you see that the restaurant is set out with three dining areas with one being upstairs which would be ideal for functions and a nice bar area. Our table was in the front dining area where we enjoyed a lovely glass of champagne while we looked at the menu. We then chose our starters which were the Tartare of Yellowfin Tuna & the Smoked Salmon with Crab Mayonnaise & I have to say both dishes were fabulous
TARTARE of YELLOWFIN TUNA
SMOKED SALMON with CRAB MAYONNAISE
This took us to the main event that was the amazing roast dinners and very hearty they were to. We chose the Roast Duck & the amazing Roast Beef which was so succulent in fact perfect accompanied by fantastic roast potatoes delightful vegetables and a glorious Yorkshire Pudding
ROAST DUCK
ROAST BEEF & YORKSHIRE PUDDING
After a nice rest which was required it was time for desserts and these turned out to be as heavenly as our first two courses. We chose the Vanilla Rice Pudding the Apple & Sultana Crumble & the Warm Chocolate Brownie
VANILLA RICE PUDDING
APPLE & SULTANA CRUMBLE
CHOCOLATE BROWNIE
This ended our fantastic Sunday Lunch and one that I’ll remember for a long time. We will definitely be returning soon to try the Tasting Menu. It was also nice to have a chat with Head Chef / Owner Phil Thompson after dinner while enjoying some fabulous Petit Fours who is a really nice man & you can clearly see that his character shines through to all his staff. This is a restaurant that I would highly recommend as the food and service is excellent
