It was great to be back at Cornerstone on saturday which is one of our favourite restaurants. There’s always a great buzz in the restaurant as well as being served some amazing fish dishes and along with the friendliness of all the team is the reason why this was our eighth visit. It was also our first chance to congratulate the team on their well deserved award of a first Michelin Star.

Our welcome on arrival was as friendly as our previous visits with either a hello our a wave from staff and chefs. We received a complimentary glass of champagne while we perused our way through the menu. The food is designed for small plates to be shared which is what we’ve always done. But on this occasion we decided to be a bit different so we picked out six dishes so that we could have the same dish each. This way also meant that the dishes would arrive at the same time. I say this because if as before where we normally share the entire menu the dishes can come out in any order.

Before our first dishes arrived we enjoyed a fabulous snack filled with cod roe. Then a really nice surprise from the kitchen as they sent over a couple of complimentary dishes on them. They were the Salmon Pastrami and two Pickled Oysters with cucumber , horseradish & dill along with bread and chill & lime butter. This was a fantastic gesture from the team and very much appreciated.

It was now time for our first course where we decided to choose one of our favourite dishes a Sea Bream Tartare with egg yolk & soy that when you mix it all together is an absolute treat. We followed this with one of the best scallop dishes I think we’ve ever had. The Raw Scallop with asparagus , green curry & ratte potatoes was simply stunning.

Now it was time for the new version of the crumpet. This time it was called a Seafood Cocktail Crumpet with brown crab & oyster marie rose. It was absolutely sublime and definitely one of the crumpet dishes they’ve done. This led us onto another new dish of Plaice , celeriac , oyster , ox gravy & watercress oil where the richness of the sauce with the plaice and fried oyster was a match made in heaven.

Next to arrive was another amazing cheese course creation from pastry chef Kelly and I have to say she came up trumps yet again. The Lancashire Bomb with a spiced ‘hackney’ bun , apricot & walnut was just amazing. Her skills didn’t stop there as our dessert was a delicious a Choux Bun filled with strawberries & cream.

We finished with a coffee to bring to and end another fantastic visit to Cornerstone. The fish dishes inspired by Tom Brown , James and the team are simply amazing and in my opinion improving with each visit. The service led by Francesca is very friendly and professional which gives the place a good atmosphere. I would highly recommend that if you like fish then this is the place to come and personally I can’t wait to walk through the door again.

Thank You Tom , James , Kelly , Francesca and all the team for a n amazing lunch and looking forward to seeing you all again soon.
