We’d recently been to Fallow but as part of a group. This was great as it gave us the opportunity to sample all the dishes on the menu. It also gave us the feeling of wanting to return. So as I was looking for somewhere to celebrate my birthday and the fact it was open on a bank holiday monday off we went.

When we arrived the place was absolutely buzzing and virtually full. We were given a friendly welcome before being escorted to our table. Once seated the waiter came over to ask if we’d like a drink and if we needed any assistance with the menu. We ordered two cocktails an Oyster Shell Martini and a Fig Leaf Negroni while we browsed through the menu.

The menu is set out into sections consisting of snacks , plant , small plates , sea , breads , steaks , land , sides and a separate dessert menu. We asked the waiter if it was ok if we ordered food as we went along. This wasn’t a problem but the waiter did just advise that some dishes take longer to cook than others so there might be a little wait. We weren’t in a hurry so that was perfect.

First up was the SNACKS where we started with the Corn Ribs with kombu seasoning , Caramelised Cauliflower Croquettes with black garlic mayonnaise , bermondsey cheese and the absolutely amazing Smoked Beef Ribs.

We then moved on to the SMALL PLATES section to enjoy the fantastic Smoked Sausage with devilled sauce , apple ketchup , crispy sage. Pickled White Crab with sweetcorn , peanut satay sauce , white cabbage and Sea Bream Crudo with fresh turnip , almond cream , XO sauce , ponzu dressing. Each dish was an absolute delight. We accompanied these dishes with some Wildfarmed Sourdough Bread with fermented potato flour , netherend butter.

Now it was time to move into the SEA. Here we enjoyed the heavenly Flamed Mussels with bacon butter , pickled lemon and sitting on grilled bread.

It was now where we had to only issue of what was a fantastic afternoon. As we waited to order our next dishes and as the restaurant now only had a few tables in operation there was obviously a staff changeover so the majority could have a break before returning for the evening service. The trouble was they only seemed to have left one waiter on each side of the restaurant and also no manager seemed to be present either. This caused us a bit of a delay in trying to attract someone’s attention. When we mentioned this to the waiter he did apologise. It just seemed like they could have done with an extra pair of hands.

Anyway this didn’t deter us from enjoying a delightful dining experience which continued into the LAND. Here we ordered the Fallow Burger , Middle White Pork with glazed nduja cabbage , beer pickled onion , apple ketchup , runner beans with mustard and fries with kombu seasoning.

Now it was time to finish with DESSERT and I wasn’t to be disappointed here either. My wife decided to have the Cheese Course with raisins , walnuts , bread and crackers. For myself I chose the Pump Street Chocolate Mousse with salted caramel , mushroom and truffle which was absolutely delicious and a great way to finish a great lunch.

So this brought to and end a fantastic afternoon. The food was excellent , the service apart from the little issue was very friendly. This is a great place with a vibrant atmosphere and also has outside dining that is ideal for groups or couples to enjoy. So yes I would recommend a visit and hope to return again myself in the future.
